Which Website Builder is Best: Squarespace or Kajabi?

When it’s time to build a website, the most important decision you face is which website builder to use. The options are confusing. Some platforms are free and others have an annual price tag of $1000+.

Cost shouldn’t be the bottomline.

The one that’s best for you depends on your business, services, and audience. If you’re debating between Squarespace or Kajabi, this post highlights the pros and cons of each (from someone who has used both) to help you decide which is right for you.

First, let’s get this out of the way… don’t use a free website builder.

While it can be tempting to use a site like Wix, it won’t serve you well long term. As your business grows you will quickly discover that the “free” plan doesn’t include many features you need. The small upgrade fees add up.

Additionally, the design features are not as easy as advertised. Even as an experienced web designer, it was frustrating for me to use. In the end, your site will look like a template.

If you’ve already built on a free platform, it’s a good time to switch to Squarespace or Kajabi. (I’ll cover another popular website builder I’ve used, WordPress, in another post.)

So, which website builder is best: Squarespace or Kajabi?

Because the choice is so dependent on your business, services, and audience, let’s start with some questions.

Questions to help you decide which website builder is best: Squarespace or Kajabi?

Do you want to build a course or sell content?

Best choice is Kajabi.

  • Kajabi turns your knowledge into income. You are the expert. If you want to showcase what you know by building online courses, coaching programs, podcasts, or memberships, Kajabi is your best website builder.

Do you want everything you need to grow your business in one place?

Best choice is Kajabi.

  • Kajabi is an all-in-one platform that has everything you need for your business integrated inside its website builder. Email sequences, course creation, contact management, blogging, funnels, landing pages, memberships, and even coaching are all available on this platform.

Do you want a website with visually appealing templates?

Best choice is Squarespace.

  • Squarespace is known industry-wide for their beautiful templates. The visual appeal of your site attracts attention. Kajabi’s templates are good, but Squarespace still wins for aesthetics.

Do you have a small budget?

Best choice is Squarespace.

  • Squarespace gives you a 14 day free trial. Paid plans start at $16/mo when you pay for an annual subscription. When you work with a Circle Member (like us) your website comes with 20% off your first year of Squarespace.

Do you want to build your own site & edit it later?

Best choice is Squarespace or Kajabi.

  • Squarespace and Kajabi have a learning curve, but both are easier than Wix or WordPress (more on that to come…). If you have extra time, energy, and interest, you can DIY these website builders. Both sites can be edited fairly easily, but each of them upgrades their internal platform regularly, which means staying apprised of the changes. One downside is that neither site can upgraded to the latest templates (on Kajabi) or building platform (Squarespace 7.1).

So, is Squarespace or Kajabi right for you?

To summarize:

Kajabi is the best website builder if:

  • You are selling knowledge (courses, coaching, memberships).

  • You want an all-in-one platform (email sequencing, funnels, blogging, contact management).

  • You want to DIY your site (can be built and edited with some work). Tied with Squarespace.

Squarespace is the best website builder if:

  • You want a selection of beautiful templates.

  • You have a smaller budget.

  • You want to DIY your site (can be built and edited with some work). Tied with Kajabi.
