Raising kids is hard.
Letting them go is harder.

A story of hope & encouragement for moms

You blinked…

And your baby is about to graduate.

Your heart and mind ping-pong between past and present, excitement and fear, joy and pain.

Though you feel unprepared to let go, each tick of the clock prepared you for this.

In the midst of the waves, sometimes we need a gentle reminder that we’re more ready than we know. Even when it hurts a little.

Or a lot.

“Train up a child in the way he should go;
    even when he is old he will not depart from it.”

— Proverbs 22:6

About the story

Shortly after leaving her firstborn in his college dorm, author, Heidi Zwart, wrote a blog post about the joys and heartache of raising and letting go of our kids.

Written 9 years ago, “Roots and Wings” is now available as a short, illustrated paperback book.

Inspired by the wisdom and comfort of a friend further down the motherhood path, Heidi continues to live the truths of this story during each new season of transition. She’s now launched 3 sons, welcomed two daughter-in-laws, and become a grandma.

Her prayer is that you, dear mom, don’t let your fear of the future overshadow the goodness of God in the here and now.

Because rooted kids are made to fly.
